Sakura Motoki won Japan’s sixth gold medal in wrestling at the Paris Olympics on August 10. She competed in the 62 kg final against Iryna Koliadenko from Ukraine at the Champ de Mars Arena. This win was important for Japan because it added to the five gold medals the country won in wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Motoki showed great skill during the match, using special moves that helped her take a 4-1 lead by halftime. In the second half, she continued to do well and won the match 12-1 by technical superiority, meaning she scored many more points than her opponent. In another match, Razambek Jamalov from Uzbekistan won the gold medal in the men’s 74 kg category. He defeated Japan’s Daichi Takatani with a quick takedown and won with 48 seconds left in the match. Jamalov had several surgeries and almost retired, but was happy to win and thanked his coach and family. Additionally, Albania’s Chermen Valiev won a bronze medal, which was Albania’s first Olympic medal, and Georgia’s Geno Petriashvili won gold in the men’s 125 kg category by defeating Amir Hossein Zare from Iran.
