NASA said in March 2026 that a large moon rocket was ready for launch again after engineers fixed several technical issues. The rocket will launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida and may fly as early as April 1. The flight is part of the Artemis II mission and will send four astronauts around the moon. The crew will not land on the moon but will travel around it and return to Earth. This will be the first mission with astronauts traveling near the moon in more than fifty years. Earlier plans were delayed because engineers discovered a fuel leak and another problem with the rocket.

Engineers repaired the rocket and completed another safety test before preparing the launch again. NASA leaders said the mission still has some danger because the rocket has flown only once before. Even so, scientists believe the mission will help prepare astronauts for future lunar exploration. NASA is also working with private companies to build landers that can carry astronauts to the moon’s south pole. These projects are part of NASA’s long-term plan for space travel and exploration in the future.
