Esther McVey, secretary of Work and Pensions, said teenagers should have a part-time job. She believes that this will serve as their training ground. Through part-time jobs, students will be able to enhance their skills that are significant at work. However, the number of teenagers who have part-time jobs has decreased by sixty percent.

Some students do not want to have part-time job because of their academics. They said that it is difficult to balance their weekend job and schoolwork. Meanwhile, Dr. Holford of University of Essex believes that part-time jobs could hinder students’ good performance at school. He also said that students should have enough time to study and rest.
