Internet connection in Algeria and Iraq was shut down to stop students from cheating during examinations. This was due to high school test papers being shared on social media sites. Nouria Benghabrit, the Algerian education minister, said that the Internet was suspended for two hours on the mornings of the 20th to the 25th of June 2018. Iraq implemented the same rule as high school students take the final tests in June.

Internet service provider Algeria Telecom explained that the instruction was arranged by the government. Benghabrit informed Algerian newspaper Annahar that she was uncomfortable with the decision. However, she refused to risk having another leak from happening again.
