Saitama Prefecture began receiving applications from locals who are willing to provide homestays for the families of the athletes of Tokyo 2020. The aim of this program is to help families of the competitors and others involved in the game to acquire proper lodging and meals. It will grant them opportunities to deepen their understanding and perception of Japanese cuisine, culture and customs. The recruitment started on August 17 and the prefecture’s authorities will take applications through fax and mail until the end of November.

This program is exclusive to Saitama residents. Each host family can accept up to three guests and they can stay up to three nights. Host families are asked to give minimum of two meals a day to their guests. Saitama’s local government plans to take around 500 visitors under the program. According to the prefecture, visitors may apply for the program to their respective countries’ Olympic and Paralympic committees.
