By 2020, the Starbucks Company will help save the ocean by banning more than 1 billion plastic straws. Erin Simon, director of Sustainability Research and Development at World Wildlife Fund (WWF), said that plastic straws pose a danger and have a devastating effect on species. He hopes that other companies will follow Starbucks’ action.

Starbucks will replace flat plastic lids to adult sippy-cup lids. It is a recyclable lid that features a raised lip. According to the Starbucks Company, this change is a part of their commitment to get rid of plastic straws. Other countries like Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom have started to discontinue the use of plastic straws. Starbucks Company is the largest company that planned to stop using plastic straws.
