After decades of separation, the families from North and South Korea finally met at the reunion held at Mount Kumgang resort last August 20, 2018. Almost 200 families took part in the event that was organized by the Korean Red Cross. Most of the attendees were elders who traveled by bus to North for the event. At the time of their reunion, the Koreans embraced each other while reminiscing their past years.

Lee Keum-Soem, a 92 year-old mother, was reunited for the first time with her son Ri Sung Chol, 71 years old, after more than 60 years. According to reports, the reunion of the two was very emotional. Moreover, the get-together of the families was the result of the meetings of South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un last April and May 2018.
