An event to celebrate the exaltation of Japan’s new Emperor, Crown Prince Naruhito, will be held this 2019. This will occur after the prince agrees to take power on May 1, 2019 to lead a new generation. Emperor Akihito will renounce his throne on April 30. An important ceremony for the new Emperor will run on October 22.

A group of lawmakers and event organizers will commence planning the event. The National Public Safety Commission’s former chairman Keiji Furuya and the House of Representatives’ former speaker Bunmei Ibuki are expected to take responsibility as secretary general and chairman of the lawmakers association, respectively. Notable figures such as Akio Mimura, chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Hiroaki Nakanishi, chairman of Keidanren are part of the committee as well.
