Japanese Governor Yuriko Koike announced on January 6, 2019 a two-day esports event that will happen in Tokyo in April 2019. The event is to promote the video games and anime industries of Japan. The government intends to put 50 million yen budget for this event. The venue and the exact date of the said affair are still to be decided.

Esports is already known in North America, Europe, and China. Esports was played at the last Asian Games held in Jakarta and Palembang to promote itself. Esports in Japan started gaining more popularity when Japan Esports Union was introduced in 2018. Moreover, another esports competition will be happening in October featuring the video game “Pro Evolution Soccer 2019” in line with the national sports occasion.
