China is set to reveal a new generation of driverless magnetic levitation (maglev) trains in 2020, according to a state media. These medium-low-speed maglev trains will run at a speed of 200 kph, which is faster than the older versions. Maglev 3.0 is built and developed by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotives Co. Ltd. The company chairman, Zhou Qinghe, said it will have a more “powerful brain” than the previous trains due to its reliable autopilot operation.

Once the new train starts operation, it will be the fastest commercial train developed entirely by Chinese firms. The new maglevs are intended to be used for intercity transit of 50 to 200 kilometers in distance. Other than China, countries like Japan and South Korea are also operating maglev trains.
