An underwater village in Italy is expected to reappear after 27 years. Located in Lucca, Tuscany, Careggine Factories (Fabbriche di Careggine in Italian) sank after a dam was built in 1947. The construction of the dam resulted in the creation of Lake Vagli where the village sank. According to Lorenza Giorgi, daughter of the former municipality mayor Ilio Domenico Giorgi, the local authorities’ target year of draining the water completely is in 2021. The officials plan to use this opportunity to boost tourism and employment in the region once the village reopens.
