Mitsubishi Estate revealed the design and name of its new skyscraper that is set to be Japan’s highest building once it opens in 2027. It will be located near Tokyo station and will stand 390 meters high (1,279 ft). It will feature 63 floors of office space, and on the lower floors, several restaurants and shops, a bath house, and a 2,000-seat grand hall will be opened. The Japanese builders called it the “Torch Tower” and pictured it as a “flaming torch” that lights up the world.
At present, Japan’s tallest building is Osaka’s 300-meter Abeno Harukas. The second one is the 330-meter ongoing building in Toranomon-Azabudai district will also be surpassed by Torch Tower. However, Mitsubishi guarantees that the soon to be highest building will maintain “highest level of earthquake resistance”. Mitsubishi Estate stated that the development area will also provide public places where people can take shelter in any case of natural disaster.
