Thousands of young people are walking out of school to join anti-climate change protests across Australia. Up to 50,000 students are expected to join “School Strike 4 Climate”, a campaign started by young people to call for action against the climate crisis. Youth protesters push the government to use less harmful energy sources instead of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas. According to reports from the country’s science and weather organizations, Australia has warmed up by 1.4 degrees Celsius on average since national records began in 1910. Because of this, the country experienced increased forest fires and extreme weather events in the last century. The government has promised to use technology to lessen the negative effects of harmful gases. Still, critics and protesters insist that the government should not rely on it but instead, use renewable energy sources and act on the issue immediately.
