“Squid Game” has officially become Netflix’s new biggest series, pushing “Bridgerton” off the top spot. The Korean drama had a total of 111 million views in its first 28 days, which is significantly larger than the former first placer that had 82 million. Korean drama fan Chloe Henry says that “Squid Game” stands out among others due to the actors’ emotional performances, keeping the viewers hooked on the characters. The nine-part series, which first showed in September, follows 456 adults in debt who engage in various children’s playground games. The prize is 45.6 billion Korean won (around $39 million) but the players suffer extreme consequences if they lose any of the games. They were tricked into playing a deadly children’s elimination game, thinking it was their only chance to win the money they needed to survive. Due to the show’s violence, however, it is not suitable for anyone under the age of 15.
