Malta is a small Mediterranean island nation that has put together an impressive pandemic response with one of the world’s highest immunization rates. After imposing some of Europe’s strictest restrictions, the country has been able to open its borders and welcome individuals safely.

Vaccinations have been received by around 81 percent of Maltese inhabitants. According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Malta and Portugal are the only two European countries with a population vaccination rate of more than 80 percent. According to the ECDC director, it makes Malta and Portugal the two of the few regions likely to avoid a winter resurgence and among the safest places to visit in 2021. If visitors to Malta want to escape a 14-day quarantine, they must get vaccinated themselves.

The government is delighted to welcome back vaccinated international visitors, particularly those who wish to take advantage of their company’s new remote work program. In June 2021, Malta announced the Nomad Residence Permit that allows visitors to keep their present jobs while living in Malta for a year.
