BTS has become the first foreign group to be on the top spot of Oricon’s year-end album charts, earning almost $162 million (18.48 billion yen) in the country. The Oricon Annual Ranking 2021 reports Japan’s most popular songs and albums—including the digital ones—last year. According to Oricon, BTS’ album “BTS, The Best” led the year-end album chart with 992,837 sold copies. This makes them the first international group to lead the chart and the first foreign artists on the top spot since Michael Jackson with his album “Thriller” which sold 575,000 copies in the country 37 years ago. “This time, we won first place in the Oricon Annual Ranking 2021’s total ranking of sales division by artist. We are really happy that you love our songs. It is also a great honor to receive such a wonderful award. Thanks to ARMYs who always support us. Thank you very much,” said BTS members RM, j-hope, Jimin, V, Jung Kook, Jin, and SUGA.
