Americans’ paychecks continue to rise, but prices increase along with that. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that salaries for American workers climbed by 4% between December 2020 and December 2021–the largest since the fourth quarter of 2001. Workers from private companies had the highest pay increase of 4.4% over the same period. However, it is not positive when these additions are adjusted for the high hikes on prices due to the COVID-19 health issue. Based on a poll conducted last month, majority of the Americans believe that the country’s economy is not in its best condition. Respondents said that the rising prices of food, oil, and other basic needs are a serious problem. Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden is receiving low marks for his handling of the economy, with only 30% of respondents agreeing with his policies and 45% saying they have worsened the economy.
