UN experts have devised a method for addressing the main causes of global warming and climate change, which they think will aid in their efforts. A senior UN committee has stated in a report that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions must be reduced quickly, deeply, and immediately. To avoid the worst effects, global CO2 emissions would have to reach a peak within three years. The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has revealed its advice on what the world can do to avert a dark future. First, the bad news: the planet would still warm by 3.2 degrees Celsius this century even if all countries’ carbon-cutting efforts were fully implemented by the end of 2020. The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has voiced his discontent with the discovery. As a result of such a spike in temperature, our world would face massive heatwaves, severe storms, and widespread water shortages. To avoid disaster, analysts predict that the world must keep global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius or less this century.
