A study in China found that eating a lot of fried food, especially fried potatoes, is linked to a higher risk of anxiety and depression. The study followed more than 140,000 people for over 11 years and found that young men and younger individuals were more affected. The researchers also compared the effects of eating fried food on people and zebrafish and suggested that a chemical commonly found in fried food could harm mental health.

However, experts in nutrition say that the results are not definitive, and it’s not clear if fried food causes mental health problems or if people with these issues tend to eat more fried food. Regardless, the study shows that reducing the consumption of fried food may be important for mental and overall health. Eating a healthy and varied diet is also important for well-being.
