To address overcrowding at Mount Fuji, the Yamanashi Prefectural Government has a plan. Governor Kotaro Nagasaki wants to use a light rail transit system to help with too many tourists.

Mount Fuji is a special place and has been one for ten years as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This comes with responsibilities to take care of the environment and the site’s history. But in the past few years, there have been more problems with too many visitors. Governor Nagasaki’s idea is to replace the road to Mount Fuji’s fifth station with a light rail system. This could control how many people come, reduce the number of cars, and make visiting better. The Yamanashi Prefectural Government is working hard on this idea and is looking at how possible it is. They want to get support from local people and others by March 2024. This is important because there have been twice as many visitors to the fifth station between 2012 and 2019. By making these changes, they hope to keep Mount Fuji special and good for everyone.
