Engaging in morning workouts, especially between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., is crucial for weight loss, according to recent studies. The research, published in the Obesity journal and involving over 5,200 adults, shows that people doing moderate-to-vigorous exercise in the morning have lower body mass indexes (BMIs) than those exercising later. Lead researcher Tongyu Ma from Hong Kong Polytechnic University suggests that morning exercise before meals can significantly contribute to weight loss. In a separate investigation involving 5,000 participants, it was discovered that individuals who engage in morning exercise tend to possess a lower average BMI of 27.5, in contrast to those who exercise later in the day, displaying an average BMI of 28.3. Morning exercise is linked to lower BMIs, but experts stress that more research, including clinical trials, is needed to establish its connection to optimal health. Despite lower BMIs, morning exercisers have sedentary lifestyles and consume fewer calories, influenced by age, race, gender, and lifestyle. Experts emphasize a holistic approach—combining morning exercise with a healthy diet—for effective weight loss, highlighting consistency and aligning workout times with personal preferences and daily routines.
