The new film Alien: Romulus topped the North American box office during its opening weekend. Released by 20th Century Studios, the movie earned impressive amounts in both the U.S. and Canada, and also did well internationally. The Walt Disney Company, which owns 20th Century Studios, had another success with Deadpool & Wolverine, which remained in second place after four weekends. Despite August usually being a quieter time for movies, the popularity of Deadpool & Wolverine has improved the overall performance of the summer season. The summer, which started with low expectations, has turned out better than expected. Alien: Romulus, directed by Fede Álvarez and starring a young cast, received positive reviews. The romantic drama It Ends With Us, based on a popular novel, took third place and performed well relative to its production costs. Twisters was fourth, and a re-release of Coraline was fifth. However, Borderlands, based on a video game, is struggling despite its high budget. Final ticket sales will be confirmed soon.
