A lively parade of amphibious cars moved through Amsterdam’s canals, marking the last time this event will happen in the city under the current rules. In 2025, Amsterdam will start new environmental rules that only allow emission-free boats and vehicles in its waterways. This is a big problem for amphibious cars because their electric batteries are too heavy to meet the new standards. The event organizer, Roy Bolks, said the parade began in Amsterdam, made stops in Monnickendam and Utrecht, and ended in the city on August 1. This year, 100 participants joined the event, which is more than the usual 80. Bolks mentioned that many people wanted to join, so there was even a waiting list. Switching to electric amphibious cars is difficult because there are only a few of them, and their batteries are heavy and hard to manage. Although future technology might help these cars return to Amsterdam, it is not available yet. The amphibious car parade, which started in 1987, will continue in other parts of the Netherlands. Friesland is expected to host it in the future.
