The hit series “Squid Game” is set to return for an eagerly awaited second season on December 26, with creator Hwang Dong-hyuk promising even more intense games and exciting new characters. During a promotional event in Lucca, Italy, Hwang also revealed that a third season is already in post-production and hinted at the possibility of an English-language version. Since its 2021 debut, “Squid Game” has become a global sensation, ranking as Netflix’s most-watched show and earning Emmy awards for Hwang and lead actor Lee Jung-jae. In this new season, Seong Gi-hun, the main character, will return to the deadly games. Unlike before, Gi-hun is now motivated by revenge, aiming to take down the organization responsible for the brutal competitions. Hwang explained that Gi-hun’s character has undergone a major change, driven by justice rather than money. Lee Jung-jae shared that playing this new, justice-seeking Gi-hun was a unique challenge. There are also rumors of an American adaptation by director David Fincher. Hwang is thrilled to expand the show, which continues to explore themes of social inequality and survival.
