The popular show “Squid Game” is returning with a much-anticipated second season, promising even more intense games and exciting new characters, says creator Hwang Dong-hyuk. At a promotional event in Lucca, Italy, Hwang also shared that a third season is already in post-production and hinted at a possible English-language version of the series. Since its debut in 2021, this Korean thriller has gained worldwide fame, becoming Netflix’s most-watched show and winning Emmy awards for Hwang and lead actor Lee Jung-jae.

The new season, set to release on December 26, follows the main character, Seong Gi-hun, as he reenters the deadly games. This time, however, Gi-hun is not seeking prize money but aiming to take down the organization behind these brutal competitions. Hwang explained that Gi-hun’s character has changed, driven now by revenge against those responsible for the games, showing a dramatic shift from the first season. Lee Jung-jae noted that playing Gi-hun’s new, justice-driven personality was a unique challenge. There are also rumors about an American adaptation led by director David Fincher, known for Fight Club. Although specific details have not been confirmed, Hwang is excited about expanding the series, which continues to explore social inequality, survival, and moral limits through its gripping storyline.
