Japan has seen a record rise in tourism, attracting visitors from all over the world. One of them is Omar Nok, a 30-year-old adventurer from Cairo, Egypt. Nok completed an incredible journey of 46,239 kilometers through 12 countries without flying. Starting in February, he traveled by boat, train, and camel to reach Japan. His adventure gained attention on social media, earning him over 750,000 Instagram followers. This journey was part of Nok’s dream to visit Japan and experience the cultures and landscapes along the way. After 274 days, he reached Tokyo on November 7.

The rise in tourism in Japan is partly due to the weakening yen, making the country more affordable for visitors. From January to September, Japan welcomed nearly 27 million tourists, spending a record 5.86 trillion yen. Nok faced many challenges during his trip, including language barriers and unfamiliar areas, especially in Central Asia. However, he received help from locals and was motivated by support from his family. Traveling on a budget, he saved money and had unique experiences, like sandboarding in Iran and horseback riding in Kyrgyzstan. His journey highlighted the kindness of communities often misunderstood in the media.
