The Royal Mint has released a special coin collection to honor John Lennon on what would have been his 85th birthday. This tribute is part of the Royal Mint’s “music legends” series, which has also celebrated artists like Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Queen, the Rolling Stones, and Shirley Bassey. The coin features a detailed portrait of Lennon, inspired by a well-known photo taken by Bob Gruen in 1974. The image shows Lennon in profile on the roof of his New York penthouse. His name is displayed on the left side of the coin, while the word “Imagine” appears on the right, referencing his famous 1971 song and album.

John Lennon is remembered for both his music and his strong message of peace. Even many years after his tragic death in 1980, his influence continues to inspire people worldwide. The coins became available on March 17, 2025, on the Royal Mint’s website. They are offered in different metals, including gold, with prices ranging from £18.50 ($24) to £6,420 ($8,330). Although these coins are considered legal money, they are mainly meant for collectors. Rebecca Morgan from the Royal Mint highlighted Lennon’s lasting impact as an artist and peace advocate.
