U.S. health officials are warning about a rise in injuries linked to nitrous oxide misuse, commonly known as laughing gas. This gas is usually used in dental offices and hospitals to help patients relax. However, some people are now inhaling it to feel high. Recently, flavored nitrous oxide products like Cosmic Gas, Galaxy Gas, and MassGass have become popular. These products are often sold in bright, colorful packaging at gas stations, vape shops, and online stores, which has caught the attention of health authorities. The FDA has warned that inhaling nitrous oxide can cause dangerously low blood pressure, which may result in unconsciousness or serious injury. Poison control centers have reported more cases of people collapsing after inhaling the gas improperly. The FDA believes this increase is linked to flavored nitrous oxide products sold for cooking, even though the packaging warns against inhaling them. Social media videos showing young people misusing nitrous oxide have also played a role in this trend. While some U.S. states have added age restrictions for buying nitrous oxide, there are no nationwide rules in place.
