After the deadly building collapse in Bangkok caused by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28, 2025, a temporary shelter was set up near the site to support families of the missing workers. Although the earthquake’s epicenter was more than 1,200 kilometers away, it caused major damage in Bangkok. One high-rise building collapsed, with 15 of the 22 confirmed victims among those who did not survive, according to city officials. Around 70 workers are still missing. At the shelter, grief filled the air as families waited for news. But hope briefly returned when K9 USAR Thailand’s search dogs arrived to help with the rescue. This non-profit group works with the Thai government in emergencies and brought trained golden retrievers to search for survivors. These dogs also provided comfort to families, especially children. According to the deputy director, Alongkot Chukaew, dogs like Sahara and Safari help ease people’s pain with their calm and gentle nature. Handlers choose dogs that can bring comfort, giving families a quiet reminder that rescue efforts continue. Despite the hardship, these dogs have become a symbol of hope, care, and strength.
