A young colossal squid was seen alive in the deep sea for the first time. The discovery happened last month near the South Sandwich Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. A group of scientists found the squid during a scientific expedition. The squid was seen 600 meters below the sea using a special underwater machine called a submersible. It was about 30 centimeters long. This type of squid is very rare. Most knowledge about it comes from dead squids found in whales or seabirds. Experts said adult colossal squids can grow up to 7 meters. A video of the squid was shared on April 15, 2025, by the Schmidt Ocean Institute.

The squid looked almost clear and had soft, long arms. It was not the usual dark color of older squids. Scientists said the discovery was a big breakthrough. It helped show the early life of this strange sea animal. New cameras will be used to find more squids. The event showed the importance of deep-sea research and new technology. This information is valuable for ocean studies and future exploration.
