On February 24, a Delta Air Lines flight to Columbia, South Carolina, had to go back to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The Boeing 717 took off but returned shortly after. Thick smoke came out inside the cabin. The crew had trouble seeing. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said there were 99 people onboard. The smoke started near the front door and spread through the air vents. The pilots wore oxygen masks and flew back to the airport. All passengers left the plane safely. Two people had small injuries during the evacuation. The smoke did not hurt anyone.

The NTSB said the pilots saw a low oil pressure warning in the right engine. They turned off the engine to follow safety steps. After landing, workers checked and found little oil inside. The cause of the smoke is still unknown. Firefighters waited at the airport. The response was efficient, critical, coordinated, tremendous, and precautionary.
