In early April, a swim school in Florida named Small Fish Big Fish started a special program for children with autism. The swimming pool had colorful designs. Trained teachers helped each child slowly and carefully. The goal was safety, not only fun. Since 2021, more than 100 children with autism or under testing have died from drowning in Florida. The Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County explained that autism is a developmental condition. It affects the way children speak and act. It also increases the risk of wandering and not seeing danger. For this reason, learning to stay safe in water has become essential.

To help lower this risk, the council gave money to train swimming teachers and open more classes. The lessons use pictures, slow steps, and calm teachers. At first, some children were afraid, but later they showed clear progress. A health expert from Columbia University said that swimming lessons are an important strategy for children with autism. Groups like Autism Swim and the Autism Society are now helping teachers in other countries. These programs may support children and stop accidents in an effective way.
