Archaeologists have found a very old burial site in a cave in central Israel. The place is called Tinshemet Cave. The human bones are about 100,000 years old. This information was shared in Nature Human Behavior in March 2025. The bodies were placed in the ground in a special way. Around the bones, there were stones, animal bones, and red-colored powder called ochre. Experts think these items were part of a ceremony to respect the dead. This means early humans may have believed in life after death.

People started working at the site in 2016. They used small tools to carefully remove the bones and other objects. They found two full skeletons and other bones, along with over 500 pieces of ochre. The bones stayed in good condition because of ash, rain, and the type of rock in the cave. Experts say this kind of find is rare. It helps people learn about early human life. Similar things were found in two other caves in northern Israel, but the new find gives better proof. Researchers think the burials show a big change in how early humans lived and thought about life and death.
