On August 13, 2025, Gallup said that drinking alcohol in the United States is at the lowest level in 30 years. Only 54% of adults said they drink alcohol. A survey in July found that 53% think drinking a small amount is bad for health. In 2015, only 28% thought this way. Younger adults are more likely to believe alcohol is harmful, with two-thirds agreeing. About half of older adults now think the same, up from only 20% ten years ago. Experts say more people know that alcohol can cause cancer and other health problems. Some countries have already changed their rules on alcohol, and the United States may do this later in 2025 under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.Health experts said new research shows no health benefits from moderate drinking. Gallup’s data also found that people who drink are drinking less. Only one in four said they had a drink in the past day, which is the lowest ever. About 40% said it had been more than a week since their last drink. Experts believe new government rules and health messages may help lower alcohol use even more.
