A new type of dinosaur has been found in Argentina. The fossils were discovered in the Lago Colhué Huapi Formation in Patagonia. Scientists said the animal lived about 66 to 70 million years ago, close to the end of the Cretaceous period. The dinosaur was named Joaquinraptor casali. It was part of a group called megaraptorans, which were meat-eating dinosaurs with long heads and very strong claws. The researchers explained that the animal was about 23 feet long and is one of the best skeletons of this group ever found. Experts believe this discovery will help explain how these dinosaurs lived in South America, Australia, and Asia. The results of the study were published in the journal Nature Communications.

The scientists found bones from the head, arms, legs, and tail. They also found a leg bone next to the jaws of an ancient crocodile relative. This shows that the dinosaur may have eaten crocodiles or other large reptiles. The animal was at least 19 years old when it died, but the cause of death is not known. The leader of the study, Lucio Ibiricu, named the dinosaur after his son Joaquin. Experts said this is an important discovery for learning about food chains in ancient environments.
