China has sent golden snub-nosed monkeys to Europe for the first time. These monkeys are endangered and are easy to recognize by their orange fur and blue faces. They arrived at Beauval Zoo in France in April 2025 and at Pairi Daiza Zoo in Belgium in May 2025. The project celebrates 60 years of friendship between China and France. The monkeys were sent on a ten-year loan through the China Wildlife Conservation Association. After a short quarantine, both zoos said the animals are healthy and doing well in their new homes.

The golden snub-nosed monkey lives in the mountains of central and southwestern China. In Shennongjia National Park in Hubei Province, many years of protection have helped increase their number to about 1,600. The zoos built special enclosures with Chinese-style gazebos to show cultural respect. Experts said this project helps countries work together to protect wildlife. However, some researchers said long travel and breeding rules may be stressful for the animals. Still, the program is seen as an important step for education, conservation, and friendship between China and Europe.
