Many children and parents in Montclair, New Jersey, joined a “bike bus” ride to school. They rode their bicycles together for five miles to local elementary schools. The event happens every week. It started three years ago when some parents wanted to make school travel safer. Now, more than 350 people join each week. The project helps students stay healthy, protects the environment, and brings neighbors together. A group called Bike Bus World said there are now over 400 similar bike bus routes in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Organizers said more people want to use bicycles to reduce pollution and support cleaner cities.

Volunteers help guide the riders and keep them safe on the road. They wear bright safety vests and make sure everyone follows the route. The rides use quiet streets, and cyclists are told to wear helmets and lights, especially in the morning. The event continues all year, even when the weather is not good. Sponsors give equipment such as reflective vests and repair tools. Organizers said the activity teaches students to work together and care for nature. They hope it will inspire more cities to build safe bike lanes and protect children traveling to school.
