A long-running holiday project in Antwerp, Belgium, gained attention in 2025 as collector Christel Dauwe continued expanding a large ornament collection. The Christel Dauwe Collection holds more than 64,000 ornaments in a private archive and about 18,000 pieces displayed in a small shop. The collection began during Dauwe’s teenage years and expanded after the shop shifted from selling antiques to selling ornaments 35 years ago. A major turning point occurred during a visit to Poland, where a factory agreed to produce custom designs but required orders of 200 pieces per shape. This condition shaped the early business plan and demonstrated rising interest in detailed handmade decorations.

The business expanded further through cooperation with the original Polish supplier and 32 additional European producers, which increased artistic variety and strengthened long-term stability. Dauwe noted that many customers searched for ornaments that represented personal experiences, including pets, cars, and significant events. This trend supported the longevity of the business and created a distinctive shopping environment for visitors. The collection also featured high-value pieces, such as a handcrafted ornament of Alexander the Great priced at more than 500 euros, which highlighted the expertise required for such work. Each ornament required careful maintenance and was dusted twice a year. Dauwe stated that holiday traditions offered nostalgia and hope, guiding the shop’s mission across all seasons every year.
