Indonesia welcomed the first giant panda cub born in the country. The baby panda was born on Nov. 27 at Indonesian Safari Park in West Java. The cub is named Satrio Wiratama and has the nickname Rio. Park workers said the cub is in good health. The newborn makes small sounds and drinks milk from the mother panda, Hu Chun. The park shared photos and videos of the cub inside a warm incubator.

Animal experts watch the cub every day to help it grow safely. The baby panda will soon open the eyes, move more, and develop thicker fur. The park said visitors cannot see the cub yet because workers want to protect the mother and baby. The adult pandas arrived in Indonesia from China in 2017 as part of a wildlife program. Giant pandas are rare animals, so a new birth is very important for scientists.
