A painting once believed not to be made by Rembrandt has now been confirmed as the work of the famous Dutch artist. The painting, called “Vision of Zacharias in the Temple,” was created in 1633 in Amsterdam. The artwork was hidden from the public for many years after a collector bought it in 1961. Experts at the Rijksmuseum in the Netherlands recently announced the discovery. The painting will soon appear in the museum so visitors can see the rare work.

Experts completed a long study of the painting using modern technology. Special scans showed details of the wood and paint used by the artist. The materials matched those used in other works by Rembrandt. The painting shows a story from the Bible. In the scene, the angel Gabriel appears to the priest Zacharias and tells him that a son will be born. The discovery adds important knowledge to the history of the famous artist and gives museums new information about paintings from the Dutch Golden Age.
