Spain recorded its lowest temperature on Tuesday, January 12 after snowstorm Filomena hit the country. Molina de Aragón’s (known as the Spanish Siberia) and Teruel’s temperature dropped to -25 degrees Celcius, whereas -16C is recorded in Madrid. Winter season in Spain is usually mild, but the recent snowstorm left a huge quantity of snow and ice on much of the country. Moreover, Molina de Aragón’s -25C is Spain’s lowest recorded temperature for the past 20 years. Spanish newspaper El País Daily mentioned that 1,300 snow removal vehicles were able to push snow 12,100 kilometers away from roads to keep them free from ice.
