Fires have spread throughout western Canada since last week due to lightning strikes. Firefighters have put out more than 170 fires across British Columbia. Several towns have ordered the residents to move out, and military forces are expected to arrive in the following days. Meanwhile, 250 locals from Lytton left their homes on Wednesday evening, June 30, without their possessions. The village had the highest recorded temperature in Canada, reaching 49.6 degrees Celcius on Tuesday, June 29. The town was also destroyed by the fire in about 15 minutes, as reported by Mayor Jan Polderman. British Columbia Wildfire Service’s provincial operations director Cliff Chapman said that 12,000 lightning strikes hit the areas near Kamloops, northeast of Vancouver. Canada’s Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan promises to send military helicopters and soldiers to help the affected regions.
