Louisiana locals may suffer from a power outage for weeks after Hurricane Ida hit the state of New Orleans last Sunday, August 24. Around 5,000 National Guard members have gone for search and rescue operations. Meanwhile, more than 25,000 workers have moved to support the power restoration. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell ordered those who evacuated their homes not to return until power and communication have been restored in the city. Ida is a category four hurricane that can cause severe damage to buildings, trees, and power lines. It has been compared to Katrina, a powerful hurricane in 2005 that had the same path as Ida. However, Governor John Bel Edwards said that New Orleans’ flood defenses have developed since then. “But the damage is still catastrophic,” Edwards mentioned. “We are still in a life-saving mode.”
