The Starliner, a Boeing vehicle, has been chosen as one of two US spacecraft to transport astronauts to and from the International Space Station (ISS). NASA became reliant on Russia to send astronauts to the ISS after the space shuttle was retired in 2011. Meanwhile, NASA concentrated on transferring the project to American firms. Boeing and SpaceX were chosen by NASA to build new spacecraft and provide seats for the crew once they began flying.
The capsule’s design is similar to that of Apollo. It has also been enhanced in terms of security. Unlike the space shuttle, the Starliner contains an emergency escape system that can move the crew away from the rocket in the event of a launch emergency.
The vehicle is made up of two primary components that are coupled from launch to shortly before re-entry. Each NASA mission will also carry four to five passengers, with seats swapped for extra cargo storage. If the fifth seat becomes available, Boeing has the option of selling it to a space tourist or transferring a foreign astronaut.
