On Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 4 p.m., a dance event was held at a glass-walled pavilion in Bosque de Chapultepec, one of the biggest parks in Mexico City. Over 300 people joined the event, including young people, families, and seniors. It was organized by the Nueva Red de Bailadores (NRB), a group that began nine years ago as a small gathering in someone’s apartment. Over time, it grew into a citywide movement. The group’s goal is to offer a safe, welcoming, and free space where anyone can dance without fear of judgment or harassment.

Since it started, the NRB has hosted about 300 events in unique places like old factories and botanical gardens. There is no alcohol, entrance fee, or formal security. Instead, people work together to create a respectful and fun atmosphere. The group partners with museums and government offices to get equipment and support. The music played includes experimental jazz, Egyptian hip-hop, and electronic cumbia. People say the events feel cathartic and uplifting. Thanks to strong online promotion and in-person support, NRB has built an egalitarian, innovative, and harmonious space for dance.
