Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, is a special park for people who love animals. It was built 25 years ago by folk artist Stephen Huneck and his wife, Gwen. The park is very large, with 150 acres on a hillside. It has hiking trails, swimming ponds, an art gallery, and the famous Dog Chapel. Inside the chapel, thousands of photos and notes are placed on the walls to remember pets that have died. Many visitors say the place is beautiful and full of love. Experts say the park is now an important landmark where art, nature, and memory come together.Huneck made the park because of his strong love for his dogs. His sculptures, paintings, and furniture can be seen all over the grounds. The chapel has wooden seats with carvings of Labradors and golden retrievers. Stained-glass windows show pictures of Huneck’s own dog, Sally. The gallery manager, Pam McCann, said the park is both a sanctuary and a place for visitors to make a special trip. Travelers from many states have enjoyed Dog Mountain and even returned again. The park gives comfort to people and shows the strong bond between humans and animals.
