A baby macaque named Punch lives at a zoo near Tokyo. The monkey became famous after photos showed him carrying a large toy orangutan. Punch’s mother rejected him after birth, so zookeepers cared for the young monkey. They gave him the soft toy so he could hold something. The small monkey often ran back to the toy and gave it a hug when other monkeys pushed him away. Many people saw the pictures online and visited the zoo to see the cute monkey.
Now Punch is slowly changing. Zookeepers say he spends more time with other monkeys. Sometimes Punch climbs on other monkeys or sits near them. Some monkeys clean his fur or stay close to him. Punch still sleeps with the toy at night, but keepers hope he will soon sleep with the monkey group. The zoo also made rules for visitors. People must stay quiet and watch the monkeys for only ten minutes. This helps keep the monkeys calm and safe.
