An old NASA spacecraft returned to Earth on Wednesday after falling from space. The satellite came down over the Pacific Ocean west of the Galapagos Islands. Officials said most of the spacecraft burned during the fall through the air. The spacecraft weighed about 1,323 pounds. NASA said the chance of someone getting hurt was very small.

The spacecraft was launched in 2012 with another satellite. The two machines studied radiation around Earth for seven years. The mission ended in 2019 when the spacecraft ran out of fuel. Scientists first thought the satellite would stay in space until 2034. However, strong solar activity made the spacecraft fall earlier than expected. The second satellite is still moving around Earth, but it is no longer working.
