Kyoto city started its project of reminding foreign tourists of polite behavior using smartphones. Visitors who have a tourist guide app on their smartphones receive reminders in Chinese and English language about local manners. The locals’ survey results and pictures taken from street cameras will also be used to check the effects of the project. The Kyoto city government and the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry started the project at Hanamikoji, a place in Gion district that is popular for its tea houses and historic buildings. The project will continue to run until December 8 this year.
