The immensely popular children’s song, “Baby Shark”, has become YouTube’s most viewed video ever with over 7 billion views and counting. The viral video was produced by South Korean educational channel, Pinkfong and was uploaded on June 17, 2016. It has now surpassed the 2017 hit single, “Despacito”, by Puerto Rican artists Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee which occupied the spot for three years.

Pinkfong also launched numerous songs under its label but Baby Shark is their most successful. “Nursery rhymes have always been sort of slow, very cute, but something that would help your children fall asleep – as opposed to Baby Shark,” said by Jamie Oh, Pinkfong’s marketing director, in an interview in 2018, when the #BabySharkChallenge conquered the internet. The company aspires to make Baby Shark “another classic for kids’ music, like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”, Oh added. The company has produced a new animated series based on the viral “Baby Shark” video co-produced by Nickelodeon Animation. It has also opened its line of consumer products – from dolls, toys, apparels, books, and household products – a proof of its popularity.
